The Owl and Pussy Cat Poem

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"

II

Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl!
 How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

 III

"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling Your ring?"
Said the Piggy, "I will."
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
 The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

Hot Potato software review

Assalamualaikum and afternoon everyone..
During my CALL classes, my lecturer exposed us with one useful software for teachers. This software helps teachers to create quick and beneficial exercises for English class. This software consists of 5 elements which are the JMatch,JCloze, JCross,JMix and JQuiz. All 5 Js are very useful in providing interesting exercises not only for adult but also useful for children. Teacher can add pictures to the exercise and it can be posted online. By instilling technology in the lesson, students will be attracted easily and it can be done outside the classroom.
By using this software, teacher will no longer have to think on how to distribute, construct and find the material for the lesson. Teacher can be creative and idealistic in using the exercise made using this software. I would like to recommend teachers out there to use this software as it will benefit both teacher and students....

These are the examples of exercises construct by me using hot potato software:

Article Review: Social Networking Sites and Language Learning

Article reviewed: Social Networking Sites and Language Learning

Journal: International Journal of Virtual and Personal learning environments, July-September 2011, Vol. 2, No. 3

Author: Billy Brick,Coventry University,UK

Link: http://wwwm.coventry.ac.uk/researchnet/elphe/publications/Documents/Brick%20article_IJVPLE%202.3.pdf

The aim of the research are to know the level of accessibility of the site, to find the strength and weaknesses of the syllabus and  activities available on the site and to find out the reaction of participants to the social networking element of the site. The participants or sample of this research are seven postgraduates students from different L1 background. The study followed their interactions in the Livemocha language learning Social Networking Site( SNS ), adopting a repeated measures design and eliciting multiple samples from the same learners over a three month period from January to March 2010. The data was collected via log sheets (Appendix) and meetings in which common issues were discussed. The results showed that there is no complaint regarding the accessibility of the site and all of the participants complaint about the quality of language learning activities in the site. As for the activity, four of the participants choose to learn more than one language. Even though there is a positive feedback and learners liked the immediacy of the responses to written and spoken submissions, but at the same time were critical of the value of corrections offered by community members. For the relationship with other participants, the participant said that the relationship is good but there is an inappropriate feedback shown like cyber- flirting.

This research does interest me as i am one of the social networking user. I think it is fun to make a full use of what we have to learn English. The social networking like Facebook also can be use as an interactive material in learning language. It is true to say that sometimes community member tend to misuse of the communication tool that we have now and prefer to use it for other purposes like for cyber-flirting. I think the sample should be bigger so that we can get more feedback from the participants and will get more ideas on how to make the SNS better for language learning. In addition, this might be done in a target group and not open to community member so that this will be easier to be controlled. If this research happened to be done in Malaysia, it will really helps the students to get a chance in practicing English language outside the classroom and at the same time giving them a chance to interact with the community members using English. The use of SNS in language learning is good but parents and teacher should filter the usage in order to avoid the misuse.

In conclusion, the use of SNS in language learning is very useful because the usage may lead to student centered learning and this will instill self responsibility in the learner's language learning.

ESL-Kids....

Hi and assalamualaikum everyone...^_^
I would like to share with you guys a website link that might help you a lot in teaching not only as teacher but as parents too..i've uploaded a few exercises for kids where you can easily download it and do some practice at home. This is the link that I am interested to talk about http://www.eslkidstuff.com/OnlineGamesMain.htm#.UkUsuIbrxtQ

This is the brief view about this website. This website's goal is to share materials with teachers out there and suitable as it provides the material for teachers. This websites not only teaching grammar but it also contains material that suits writing for every level of proficiency. In addition, this website provides games that teacher can use in a classroom. There are immediate feedback given when students do the exercise. Just like any other blog that I have scrolled through, this website have a printable worksheets, but it is also provides songs, games, and flashcards.

Learners and visitors only have to click on desired activity and proceed with the activity they had chosen. As an example if i want to play language game, I can just click on game and select which game I
prefer the most and compete with others.

While I went through the website, it reminds me on my teaching material few years back. I have a CD on an Educational game that i got from a cereal box. I displayed the game on the white screen i the computer laboratory. The students enjoy doing it but the limitation is I only manage to ask a few students to come to the front and try the game.

The website present learners with something different from their ordinary boring classic method. Instead of only having a competition between the schoolmates or classmates, students can change their perception as the player that try to defeat you is someone outside of Malaysia. The games provided is an online game so that students can compete with others.

The activities provided in this website suits the visual, auditory and kinesthetic students as this website contains a lot of colouful and interactive materials. learners under this category prefer to deal with something they can see, touch and listen too. this website not only have visuals, it also provides song.

Yes, this website fulfill the criterion for evaluating a CALL program where the activity is the potential for language learning. This website provides the interactive materials such as The Missing Letters where students may evaluate their performance or knowledge using the exercises given based on the score that they have collected. Furthermore, students may increase their vocabulary by listen to simple songs provided.

Yes, I would like to use the application in my future work because I did not adore a plain and boring classroom. By bringing such materials in my classroom, students will get more excited towards the lesson and slowly become responsible towards their learning process.
